Introduction

Yarak Birds of Prey, based in Mid Devon specialises in teaching Falconry for the novice wanting to take the first steps to keeping and training their own bird and also those who don't want to keep a bird but want to experience what it's like to handle and fly birds of prey.

We cater for people who want a completely hands-on experience with the birds, taught by experienced falconers.

Birds of prey survive in increasing numbers today because of the dedication of falconers, breeding programmes and rehabilitators and it is through their commitment that the art of falconry continues to thrive.

For anyone thinking of keeping a bird of prey it is important that they should gain some experience first, either by taking a good all-round course or working with a falconer.

Keeping a bird of prey is a big commitment especially when their lifespan can be anything from 15-30 years or more. This must be considered very carefully before obtaining a bird, as well as the cost of its housing, equipment, veterinary fees, food but most important of all is the amount of time needed to spend with the bird.

Falconry practiced properly is extremely rewarding, not only for yourself but, most importantly, for the birds.

We offer: Falconry Courses for the Novice, Experience Days, Hawking Activity Days, Weekend Falconry Experience ( or any two days of your choice) including Accommodation

Hawk Walks

Falconry packages to suit you including Accommodation

Also Days Tailored to suit your requirements

All Courses and Experience Days are on a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1tuition

No experience required

All Courses and Experience days are served with a Light Lunch and are experienced in a friendly non-commercial atmosphere

You will have the full uninterrupted attention of an experienced Falconer for the whole day in a friendly and non-commercial family atmosphere where you will be flying the birds yourself under guidance and not just watching them being flown. You will also get the chance to take part in flying working falcons and experience at close quarters speeds of more than 100 miles an hour as the Falcon stoops to the Falconers swung lure and passes within inches of you.

You may also weather permitting take part in the flying of Falcons up to a kite/Balloon at heights of 800ft where they take lures suspended in the air.

We absolutely guarantee the whole day will be an experience you will never forget.

You may think that this will be expensive as it's 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 tuition but actually we are less expensive than most group falconry experiences, but unlike group falconry where there can be up to 10 people per falconer or more, this is a completely one on one private and personal experience for you. Unlike other centres if two or more people want to experience a day together then the price is reduced so that you don't pay the full amount per person for the day.

Also during the day you will be served a Light lunch and refreshments as and when required which is all included in the price.

We also specialise in teaching the novice who wants to become a Falconer. You will be taught by very experienced falconers on a one to one tuition basis during courses and we guarantee that from having had no experience of birds of prey, at the end of a course you will be completely confident in handling , training and flying Hawks free.

What's more we give you a complete back up service after your course free of charge for however long you want which enables you to contact or visit us personally to address any problems you may encounter with your own Hawk.

If you're not sure what you'll need to keep a bird of prey or how to go on a course, all the information is here. We hope you enjoy your visit!
