From the Field Magazine after a weekend spent at Yarak.
Tucked away in the rural East Devon countryside lies a private Falconry and Eagle Centre with a difference…
The Yarak Birds of Prey Centre is a private falconry centre near Cullompton owned by John Pitson and his partner Dianne Barrett who run falconry courses, experience days which consist of the handling and flying of Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and Owls, all set in the idyllic Devon countryside.
What makes Yarak Falconry centre quite unique is that it’s one of only a few private centre’s in the UK where the public are not allowed to just wander around looking at the birds; all experience days and courses are by appointment only, it is also open all year round which sets it apart from public wildlife and falconry centres who only open seasonally and heavily rely on gate money and visitor numbers. Such centres are generally more entertainment based offering one or two shows per day, with minimal handling making the experience more visual than hands-on.
The Yarak “hands-on” approach is refreshing in these current climes and birds and people alike benefit from what the centre has to offer.
All experience days and 4 day courses are a completely hands on approach with the visitors to the centre handling and flying the birds themselves and the Yarak staff instructing.
Yarak has 5 different species of Eagles plus a variety of Falcons, Hawks and Owls and all are on view and most are handled and flown.
The centre is run by working falconers all year round and offers a wealth of knowledge to all visitors and takes you through a unique experience that will stay with you for all time.
Vouchers or set days are available to purchase online and or they can be booked and paid for over the telephone.
Truly a unique experience not to be missed!
